The church at Thyatira was a progressive church. It was doing more and more for the Gospel as each day past. It’s ministries were having an impact on the community it served. But there was a woman in the church named Jezebel (not the Jezebel of the Old Testament) who claimed to be a prophetess, a spokesperson for God. However, Jezebel was teaching a false doctrine and causing people to fall into a false sense of security. Evidently, some of the folks at Thyatira had tried to warn Jezebel of her heresy, but she would not listen. Jesus warns that his judgment will be severe for Jezebel and those who indulge with her. We must be careful in our church and in our lives today not to allow the false gods of today (money, power, fame, lustful pleasures, etc.) to intervene with and turn our attention away from our relationship and loyalty to Christ. For those that are not swayed by popular opinion, Jesus says that He will not add any other burdens to us but we are to hold on and “Don’t Let Go” of what we know is the truth! In doing so, we will receive authority over nations, from God Himself!
